Yoga For Runners Workshop

Saturday, April 30th (12pm - 2pm)

Cost: $25

Are you a runner looking for a way to improve stability and mobility? Are you looking for help to combat soreness and tightness after a good run? This workshop is perfect for you!

Join Michelle Robinson, E-RYT 500 and studio owner as she guides you through this two-hour workshop through a series of yin like poses to target key muscle groups that are associated with running. You will learn how to safely stretch while also working to strengthen weak muscles.

While running is a great form of exercise, it can often lead to injury or overuse when not complimented by mobility and strength work. Yoga is a great recovery activity for runners to relieve tightness caused by all the time you spend out on the road. The mindset of many runners is that yoga is “a way to get a good stretch” but in actuality it offers runners so much more. Yoga is a great way to improve not only flexibility but also stability, balance and strength.

Running doesn’t work the body evenly and can often lead to muscle imbalances. Tight ankles, hips, hamstrings and hip flexors combined with weak glutes and a weak core can often lead to both injuries and back pain.

Summer Solstice Celebration: 108 Sun Salutations

Join Michelle Robinson, owner of YOUnique Yoga, E-RYT 500, R-PYT in honoring the Summer Solstice. To celebrate the longest day of light, Michelle will guide students through 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar)! This a day for awakening, warming and an invigoration of the mind, body & spirit at the change of the season.

Please expect 75 to 90 minutes to complete. Regular class rates apply. Please pre-register for the class.

What is the significance of the number 108?

108 has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism and yoga. Traditionally, malas, or garlands of prayer beads, come as a string of 108 beads (plus one for the “guru bead,” around which the other 108 beads turn like the planets around the sun). A mala is used for counting as you repeat a mantra.

Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance.

According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body.

All levels are welcomed to attend with modifications given for beginning students or for those with injuries.

What is Restorative Yoga?
Restorative yoga is an opportunity to release physical & mental stress through the support of yoga poses. Blankets, bolsters and blocks will be used to support the student in holding poses for five to ten minutes. The intent is not stretching the body, but to recalibrate the nervous system from the daily stresses of life. The practice also uses breath and relaxation guidance to assist the student in a deep state of rest. Restorative yoga may assist in helping to reduce stress, anxiety, tension & pain & support the body’s immunity, digestion, sleep & healing.

What is Reiki?
The Japanese word "Reiki" is often translated as "universal life-force energy or spiritual energy". It is a healing technique where the Reiki practitioner transmits healing vibrations through their hands to the body of the recipient. It is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonizing all aspects of the person-Body, Mind, Emotions and Spirit - and it can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth. The Reiki practitioner may place their hands on or above their client in very gentle manner. Using essential oils, soft music or other healing sounds and crystals during a Reiki session can assist in the relaxation, releasing and healing of clients. Most people experience a sense of peace, deep relaxation, release of stress and anxiety, lessening of pain and possible healing of certain ailments.
